With that in mind, here are some helpful tips to keep your silver jewelry looking fresh.
WEARING YOUR SILVER JEWELRY
Keep you unique jewelry away from harsh chemicals like household cleaning fluids and abrasive chemicals. Contact with perfume, hairspray, deodorant, sea water, chlorine and sweat will increase that rate at which tarnish occurs.
There is no way to 100% protect your silver jewelry from tarnishing because silver reacts with so many materials found in everyday life. But don't worry sterling silver is tough. Tarnish does not destroy the underlying metal and can be removed quite easily.
CLEANING YOUR SILVER JEWELRY
Velvet Rascal recommends cleaning your artisan jewelry with a silver polishing cloth or silver polish solution. They are widely available!
There are many home remedies for cleaning silver, such as baking soda and aluminum foil, laundry detergent or tomato sauce.
Velvet Rascal DOES NOT recommend any of these solutions. Be careful with what you use to clean your silver as some products are abrasive and will scratch and damage your metal.
If you want to give your silver a good scrub use a soft bristle toothbrush with jewelry cleansing solution or silver polish.
STORING YOUR SILVER JEWELRY
Try to store your handcrafted jewelry in a safe, dry and cool place away from direct sunlight and open air.
It's not a good idea to store your jewellery in your bathroom.
